Easy Plaid Cuff

I know I just recently posted a daisy cuff, but I couldn't resist making another spring inspired cuff today. I stopped into Michael's to pick up some shrinky dink material for a future craft when I spotted the plaid cuff in their spring jewelry supplies area. I used a jean material flower pin for the top of the cuff, but any pin or pendant will work. Don't forget to use your 40% off coupon toward the cuff or pin/pendant to keep the cost low.

For this project you will need:

Plaid Cuff (Michael's Crafts) You could also make your own by Mod Podging fabric to a plain cuff which they also sell.

Fabric Flower Pendant/Pin (Michael's Crafts)

Wire Snips

Gorilla Super Glue (or other krazy type glue that will bond both fabric and metal).

Remove the bale and pin finding off of the back of the flower. Wire snips work well. You can easily pry these off.

Find the flat part of the pin and apply a liberal amount of glue. You can also "rough up" the metal slightly with sandpaper so the glue adheres well.

Center the flower and press well until the flower is in place.

Let dry 24 hours.

Easy Chunky Cuff Bracelets

I am so amazed by all of the large pendants at Michael's. I used them for our Shabby Chic Napkin Rings and now I am making bracelets out of them. I especially love big cuff bracelets, and since Michael's also sells plain cuff bracelets I thought I would add my favorite pendant choices to them to create a nice chunky cuff for under ten dollars. Make them for yourself, or make them to give. Cuff bracelets are nice jewelry gifts since they can be adjusted to fit just about any wrist size.

You will need:

Cuff (Find in the jewelry section at Michael's). You can also find $3 ones under the "Supplies" section on Etsy.

Large Pendant (I found both of mine at Michael's. I love their new enamel line where I found the daisy).

Gorilla Glue Krazy Glue, or JB Weld Glue

Wire Snips

Emory board or sand paper (depending on where the bale is this may not be needed).

Refer to our project Shabby Chic Napkin Rings on how to remove bales from your pendants. Click on the link for instruction: http://craftingrebellion.blogspot.com/2012/01/shabby-chic-napkin-rings.html

After you have removed the bale from the pendant apply a liberal amount of Gorilla Glue or J B Weld glue to the top of the cuff and the bottom of the pendant.

*You can glue onto the round base on the top of the cuff or you can pop it off with pliers and glue right onto the band.

Hold in place for a minute or two until set. Prop up.

Let dry 24 hours.

Easy Branch Dangles

I am pretty picky about handmade jewelry. I want the project to be easy to make, but be very wearable. I saw a pair of earrings like these on Pinterest and knew I could easily recreate them. Unfortunately no link was available to give credit to for the design idea. The pattern is really catching on though as I just saw a tutorial in a magazine for these. All you have to do to make them is be able to make a loop at the end of a head pin. That is it! You can whip out a bunch of these earrings in one evening and have them on hand for nice little gifts.

For this Project You will need:

8 Earring Flat Head Pins

One Pair of Earring Wires

8 Beads (I used all the same bead, but you can mix for a different look)

A pair of Jewelry pliers and Wire snips (my pliers have wire snips built in)

Decide how long you would like the dangles then cut off equal length off each head pin. For example the silver beaded earrings I cut off about 1/2". For the crystal beads I cut off about 1".

I cut one head pin then lined it up with the next one to cut instead of measuring and marking. You could also mark the spot on the head pin with a marker.

Add beads to each head pin.

Make a loop at the end of one head pin by bending the wire to one side then rolling the pliers up and outward and back to close.

There are many tutorials on how to make the loop, here is any easy one to watch on youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6Hvs39RpsY

Now slide the looped headpin through one of the headpins.

Make a loop at the end of the new second headpin.

Slide the second headpin through the another headpin.

Make a loop at the end of the third headpin and slide over the 4th headpin.

Put the other end of the fourth headpin through the earring wire and close a loop to attach it to the earring.  Now just repeat for the second earring.

Try using different beads to vary the look do 3 or 5 dangles instead of 4.

Make a card for your earrings by cutting a piece of cardstock approximately 3" wide by 6" long. Fold the pattern side over and secure with a tape runner. Poke two holes at the top for the earrings. Attach some ribbon or a flower.

Happy Holidays!

Betsey Johnson Inspired Half Stretch Bracelet

I have to give Betsey Johnson major kudos for this design! Stretch bracelets are by far one of the easiest bracelets to make since you don't use clasps and jewelers wire, just Stretch Magic, knots, and some glue. Plus they fit just about every wrist size so they make gift giving easy. However I had become a little bored of stretch bracelets, and really, truly love charm bracelets. Then I saw Betsey's Half Stretch Bracelets on her website and was inspired! This design is a marriage of the stretch bracelet and the charm bracelet. You attach links of chains to the stretch material for an instant, updated stretch bracelet. It can be totally personalized because of the charms. Love bees, get bee charms. Love dogs, get dog charms. What did I use on some of my bracelets? A swallow, skull, tattoo gun (love my tattoos), and a hand grenade for my favorite band Green Day. (We Rebel Crafters have to keep some things we make after all). I know you will love making these bracelets. Hurray for Betsey, she is the stuff!

For this Project you will need:

Stretch Magic Stretchy Bead Cord (I used .7 size. Make sure to get it slim enough to get through your bead holes. I found .7 to be a good size).

Chain Links (you can buy links of chain in the Jewelry Supply Sections, or recycle from broken necklaces). Try a variety of colors and sizes for even more drama.

One Large Charm and smaller charms with Jump Rings. Some good places to find charms are Michaels, Etsy and Create for Less.

Beads ( I used large pearls but any medium to large beads are great).

Spacers for beads (optional)

E6000 Glue or Clear Nail Polish

Tape (optional)

Scissors

Wire cutters and/or small pliers to cut chain links.

Start by cutting about 12 inches of Stretch Magic

Attach a piece of tape to one end to make beading easier. (optional) This way the beads cannot fall off.

Decide on the length of your bracelet, to decide how long to cut your chains.

Divide bead and chain length in half.

Example: For a 7 1/2" bracelet, cut the chain lengths 3 3/4" and string beads to 3 3/4",
for a 7" bracelet cut chain lengths to 3 1/2" and bead to 3 1/2"

Cut 3 chains. I prefer 3 separate style chains to make it interesting, but you can use 3 of the same. I used a wire cutter to cut the link. If soft enough you may be able to bend the link apart to separate.

Add your beads and spacers to the stretch magic

FYI do not start with a spacer bead. It is best to start and end with a large bead so the small knot created with the stretch magic hides better inside the bigger bead hole.

Next slip on your 3 chains. You can also combine your three chains onto one jump ring and that is what you will tie the Stretch Magic onto. I skipped the jump ring here.

Knot your chains up next to the beads. Tie a slip knot just like tying a pair of shoe laces. Make sure your knot is good and tight.

Apply a drop of E6000 glue to the knot or clear nail polish.

Take the opposite side of stretch magic and knot through the ends of the 3 chain links. This is slightly trickier since you need to make sure there is no slack. It is easiest to pull the Stretch Magic a little while knotting.

Get your knot good and tight.

Add a drop of E6000 glue or clear nail polish to the knot.

When dry, trim off Stretch magic tails.

Your new and improved stretch bracelet is ready for charms!

Attach one large charm with a jump ring to the center of a chain link.

Randomly attach other charms on the links. 5-6 Charms is a good number.

60 Second Earrings

Since we are a new crafting site I thought the first earrings I posted should be the easiest. These literally will take one minute to make. They are the perfect match to our Rockin' Hair Clips project. Make them using the same embellishments and you create a perfect gift set.

You will need:

6 mm Pierced Earring Posts (I bought my pack of 60 at Michaels for $2.99)
Earring backs
E6000 Glue
Embellishments: Refer to the project Rockin' Hair Clips  for ideas
Toothpicks

Place one drop of E6000 glue on the earring post. Use a toothpick to catch any extra glue off the sides.

Center the cabochon.

Place upright on cabochon or poke earring into a piece of styrofoam to hold in place while drying.

Allow to dry 24 hours.

Crystal Heart Earrings:

The hearts were found in the jewelry section at Michaels. They come on a strand.

Place drop of glue on earring post and center at the top of the heart on the flat angled part.

You can create an easy earring card by folding over a piece of scrapbooking paper and glue the flap down with tape runner.
